Memphis design is back on the home interiors radar as we head into the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017. The quirky, influential ’80s style has slowly been creeping its way back into the world of interiors and homes with its eccentric style, full of bold graphic prints and vibrant colours. Memphis design isn’t for the faint-hearted, so the team at Brewers Home are here to give advice on how best to implement this look in the home, using the space you've already got.
Memphis Design was an interior style that dominated the early 1980s, pioneered by an Italian design and architecture group founded in Milan in 1981. It challenged perception of ‘good design’ and flourished within memorable piece of furniture, lighting and fabrics.
Following the re-emergence of this distinctive style, Brewers Home introduces their newest fabric collection by Scion: Lohko.
Lohko, is a retro-contemporary range of printed fabrics and voiles with an assertive, architectural feel. Named after the Finnish word for ‘blocks’, Lohko is a graphic collection, featuring asymmetric motifs, bold slabs of colour and repeating, cut-out geometrics that defy the laws of gravity and proudly break the rules of design.
From oversized, abstract motifs to sophisticated chevrons and Scandi-chic patterns, the collection channels the same non-conformity, irrepressible energy and measured exuberance of the Memphis design, but allows a subtlety in the home - cushions, rugs and curtains are ideal ways of marking the room with this style without overwhelming it. Lohko has a fantastic abstract quality, whilst its colour palette channels vivid colours with a hint of black, and includes new tones for 2016: Spice, Paprika and Blush.
