Date of release: 13th May 2010 Coventry firm’s technology helps slash business overheads Technology developed by an innovative Coventry company could help thousands of SMEs slash their overheads. Netplan Internet Solutions, in Siskin Parkway East, Middlemarch Business Park, has used broadband technology to create Netplan Telecom – a business telephone system that uses the internet to send and receive telephone calls as an alternative to traditional systems. The technology - Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) telephony - is the fastest growing type of business telephone system worldwide and works directly through a businesses’ broadband connection. A typical broadband connection allows up to six calls to be made simultaneously and, depending on their existing tariff, experts at Netplan said businesses could save up to 50 per cent on their phone bills by using the system. The system is hosted by Netplan and also eliminates the need for businesses to install thousands of pounds worth of hardware. The Coventry company simply configures the phones for its clients who can effectively ‘plug and play’. Business customers are charged by the second, rather than by the minute, and users can log on from anywhere around the world to check voicemails. In addition, business owners can also use the system when away from the office to monitor staff time and attendance. Netplan’s system also incorporates a call recording tool which is particularly important for business in the financial services, insurance and legal sectors. Matthew Brennan, business development manager at Netplan, said: “Broadband has just celebrated its tenth anniversary and now has around 20 million users. For us it has opened up a raft of possibilities in telephony with our VOIP system. Netplan Telecom is a great system and we’ve already attracted about 20 re-sellers who are saying there’s nothing else like this on the market. It really can reduce overheads for businesses which is important at this time. “One broadband connection allows you to have as many phones in the office as you like. Also, if you relocate your premises you just pick up the phones, take them with you to your new offices and plug them in. In the future, people will no longer have fixed lines in their offices.” Netplan was set up 10 years ago and has grown from a specialist hosting provider to become one of the UK’s leading ISPs. Its clients range from SMEs to corporates including Volvo, Pinewood Studios, OKI Printers, Thomas Cook Corporate Foreign Exchange and many government bodies and local authorities. In addition to its core service line of managed and dedicated servers, Netplan also provides a range of other key internet services and products including virtual servers, shared hosting and online applications such as content management and bespoke development. –ENDS – Editor’s note:- For further information, please contact: Matthew Brennan, Netplan on tel: 0870 751 8345, email matt.brennan@netplan.co.uk Gary Lillistone, Bridge PR on tel: 024 76 520025, email: garyl@bridgepr.co.uk
