NEWS Release Date: 29th March 2010 Logan Teleflex / Siemens consortium wins £22 million (€ 24.3m) Gatwick contract London Gatwick Airport has awarded consortium partners Logan Teleflex and Siemens a £22 million order for an advanced baggage handling system (BHS). Logan Teleflex sister company Cofely is the incumbent Operations and Maintenance Contractor and was instrumental in helping the consortium win this major contract. The new BHS with inline screening will be installed in Gatwick’s North Terminal Building. Early engineering work has begun and the system will go live in 2012. System design and mechanical product will be supplied by Logan Teleflex. Logan Teleflex will provide two of its revolutionary Model 700 Tilt Tray Sorters and conveyors for rapid and accurate sortation. The complete system design has been engineered to produce an industry leading, energy efficient solution. This is specifically built around the Tilt Tray with its patented induction synchronization system, drive technology, a two induction line solution and a host of cutting edge technologies making it best in class, based on whole life costing, for London Gatwick Airport. The Infrastructure Logistics business of Siemens Mobility UK will be responsible for the new North Terminal’s Baggage System’s control architecture and electrical design. Siemens will supply SIMATIC S7 Modular Programmable Logic Controllers as the system’s core control device. The company will also provide software programming expertise to control and optimise the Baggage System whilst integrating the new system into the existing North Terminal controls infrastructure.
