NEWS Release Date: 24th August 2010 New contract for Logan Teleflex scoops orders worth over GBP 2.3 million at Geneva International Airport Geneva International Airport has awarded Logan Teleflex an additional contract to supply an advanced out of gauge (OOG) baggage handling system (BHS). The GBP 80,000 project takes the recent investments by Geneva in Logan’s high-tech systems to over GBP 2.3 million. The major portion of the investments was in a dedicated Departure system with in-line screening for easy Jet, a major user of Geneva airport services. The BHS is installed in Terminal 1+ of the busy airport. It comprises 12 double check-in counters with check-in desks, each served by two belt conveyors and a total of 150-m long belt conveyors to convey bags to screening machines and sorting carousel. There is also a separate conveyor for oversize bags. The system is equipped with three automatic baggage label readers and there is a manual coding station for unreadable labels. A re-injection line transports manually-coded bags back to the system. The 160-m long sorting carousel feeds 16 sorting chutes that are equipped with dual automatic pushers to ensure efficient filling. Logan Teleflex’s unique OOG system has been designed for all airlines operating from Geneva’s Terminal 1 and it is the first of its kind for the airport. The clever system incorporates two 90 degree lines with a modular chain conveyor. The special design of the system maximises baggage capacity and throughput as OOG bags are transported along the various conveyor lines. The various OOG system components include 35 m of 1-m wide conveyor belt, 90 m of 1.2m wide conveyor belt, and 1.2-m wide belt curves with a special radius of 5 m in order to avoid bags being jammed because of their size. Within the passenger area there are two stainless OOG bag conveyors, measuring 25 m and 27 m. Each one is equipped with a modular plastic chain conveyor belt, measuring 2-m wide and 1.2- wide respectively. Bags are transported widthwise on the wider conveyor and lengthwise on the narrower conveyor. “This new contract is an important win for Logan Teleflex. This is a busy airport that last year handled over 11 million passengers.
