British School of Houston Named Soccer Texas All State Champions
Houston, TX. October 25, 2013 - The British School of Houston played an impressive game last week which won the team the title of TAPPS Fall Soccer All State Championship 2013. TAPPS, the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) has a membership of 230 schools throughout Texas who regularly compete with one another in athletic events. The win by British School of Houston was made all the more impressive as they were the smallest of the 26 schools to enter a squad in the competition. British School of Houston has been a member of TAPPS since 2010.
British School of Houston’s soccer team, the Bulldogs, have previously held the title of District Champions but had never progressed beyond the Quarter Finals. However, from the early minutes of the Bulldogs’ first game it was clear that the 2013 squad was something special. With strength in depth, a higher level of technical ability, the team clearly had the potential to challenge the overall State Championship, something normally achieved by much larger schools.
Winning the District Title with one game to spare, the Bulldogs blasted through the Playoffs Quarter Final with a 6-0 demolition of Edinburg Christian Academy. The Semi -final went a similar way with a confident performance to come from behind and send Longview Academy home, 2-1.
The Bulldogs dominated Sherman Texoma Academy throughout regulation and extra time with controlled possession and superior strength but were unable to break down the defense. After 5 penalties for each side, the score was still even at 4-4. In the subsequent sudden death penalty shootout, Jonny ‘Max’ McBain, selected in the All State Representative Team as the State’s number one goalkeeper, justified his selection with a save to his left that sent the stadium wild and gave the British School of Houston the title of TAPPS Fall Soccer All State Champions 2013.
