Brand New To Broadway

With Broadway @ Times Square Hotel

With its bright, crisp weather and a season of magical Broadway shows to enjoy, the Big Apple is the perfect city for a theatre break. However, for those seeking a step up from the usual pantos and musicals, there are some exciting brand-new shows to catch this winter and spring; of which the quirkiest must be Spears the Musical: The Gospel According to Britney, which previewed last week! What’s more, Broadway @ Times Square Hotel in Midtown Manhattan provides the perfect base for thrifty ‘thespians’, with rates starting from just €58 per person.

Ideal for girls wanting a bit of noughties nostalgia, Spears the Musical will portray the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and feature all of Britney’s biggest hits including Baby One More Time and Stronger. Two fundraising preview shows are being performed this week, with dates for the official show opening to be confirmed. However, for those who remember music prior to the ‘pop princess’s’ reign, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical also opens this month on 21 November, about 1960’s chart-topping music legend and New York native, Carole King, who was arguably the greatest female songwriter of the modern era.

For the guys out there who prefer belly laughs to bubblegum pop and sixties folk, there are plenty of witty stage shows to enjoy with not a glitter ball in sight – including A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder; a dark musical comedy set in England's elegant Edwardian era, opening on the 17 November, and Jersey Boys, winner of four Tony Awards, which is showing until June 2014.

While ladies wanting their own bit of titillation should watch Kinky Boots; a new musical with songs by pop star Cyndi Lauper, on until 4 May 2014 – or try to ‘catch’ Houdini - a play about the famous escapologist, starring heartthrob Hugh Jackman, with 2014 dates to be confirmed.

Of course, for proper theatre afficionados, there is plenty of classical Shakespeare to get stuck into this winter, including Twelfth Night, Richard III and Macbeth, opening this month and showing until early February, while for those hardcore musical fans willing to wait a little, Cameron Mackintosh's 25th-anniversary production of Les Misérables, will make its Broadway premier on 3 March 2014. This is set to be a massive hit off the back of the epic movie last year.

Conveniently located on 46th Street, just minutes from the Theater District, Broadway @ Times Square Hotel offers a wealth of FREE amenities to satisfy every type of guest, from couples to groups of friends and families, including free continental breakfast, free wi-fi and national phone calls, a free fitness suite open 24 hours a day and free stays for children aged 12 and under. Rates in January 2014 start from US$154.99 per room, per night (€58 per person per night). Rates in March start from US$194.99 per room, per night (€73 per person per night).  To book, call  +44 808 178 6363 or visit www.applecorehotels.com/broadway-at-times-square-hotel/.
