BROSTRÖM EXPANDS THE FLEET Broström has together with Erik Thun AB contracted for two product tankers to be built at the shipyard Ferus Smit B V in the Netherlands with an option for another two vessels. Broström and Erik Thun will have an ownership of 25 % each. The vessels will join the Broström fleet in order to meet the increased demand for modern and efficient quality tonnage in the North European product tanker market. Out of the total Broström fleet of 60 vessels over 30 are operated in the Inter-European trade. The ships will be of the same design as the two 7,600 dwt product tankers, BRO GLOBE and BRO GALAXY, which were delivered earlier this year. The new ships including the options are scheduled for delivery in 2003 and 2004. The services of the existing four ships that Broström operates in the smaller product tanker market segment have been very well received by the customers. The new investment should be considered as Broström's continued commitment to the North European trade. With up to four newbuildings Broström will eventually operate a fleet of eight modern and efficient vessels built during 1999-2004 in this smaller size tanker segment. "The new ships certify our strategy to be a major logistics provider in the business segments that we target", says Lennart Simonsson, CEO of Broström. "The alliance with Broström with its strong market organisation is a prerequisite of this investment. Their experience from the existing very efficient ships have paved the way for this further expansion", comments Jan Källsson, CEO of Erik Thun.
