Broström in new partnership with Dunya
The Turkish shipowner Dunya has joined forces with Broström by entering into a long-term co-operation agreement that will eventually add up to ten vessels to Broström’s commercial fleet. Dunya Shipping, based in Istanbul, Turkey, is presently operating a fleet of three 47,000 dwt oil product tankers; the GÖLKÖY, the GÖNEN and the GANMUR built in 2000/2000/2001 respectively. The company has a total of a further eight similar size product tankers on order at shipyards in Korea from where the first three vessels will be delivered in 2006. A further four vessels are due for delivery in 2007 with the eighth following the year after. Dunya Shipping was established in 1985, in Istanbul by Mr Suay Umut. The company started out as the owner of product tankers. Since then Dunya Shipping has owned and managed some 20 vessels of different types and sizes. The GÖNEN has been part of Broström’s commercial fleet since 2003 and GANMUR will enter service after completion of an existing charter in September 2006. The newbuildings will gradually follow as and when they are delivered, starting second half of 2006. All ten vessels will be operated in Broström’s global fleet, by Iver Ships, serving the company’s customers in the oil and chemical industry. Broström’s total product tanker fleet today consists of 63 vessels. “We are very pleased to see our partnership concept develop through the addition of another top quality shipowner’s vessels to our fleet. We share Dunya Shipping’s commitment to high quality and safety standards. Furthermore, with the additional vessels we will be able to meet the increasing demand for transportation services in Asia, thus further strengthening our market position in this particular segment”, says Lennart Simonsson, CEO of Broström AB. “With our long-term commitment to the product tanker trade we have realized the advantages of joining forces with Broström and thereby becoming part of a commercial fleet with a size large enough to offer the oil and chemical industry competitive logistics”, says Suay Umut, founder and owner of Dunya Shipping.
