Broström has entered into an agreement with its partner Rigel Schiffahrt whereby Broström will acquire the vessels GEESTESTERN and LEINESTERN. An option agreement has also been reached giving Broström the right to acquire HUNTESTERN, after the existing chartering commitment or latest by the end of 2007. The vessels are 37,300 dwt, built 2004 and 2005, and sister vessels to the Broström vessels BRO ETIENNE, BRO ELLIOT and BRO EDWARD, all six vessels were built at the same yard in China. Broström and Rigel Schiffahrt are partners since many years and Broström commercially operates a fleet of 13 vessels in the sizes between 17,000 to 37,000 dwt controlled by Rigel Schiffahrt. Rigel Schiffahrt will continue the technical and crewing management for the vessels that Broström now will acquire. “Our initial investment in BRO ELIZABETH and BRO ELLEN, 37,000 dwt, built 2001 and 2002, turned out very well and we therefore in 2002 decided together with Rigel Schiffahrt to increase our activities in that size segment and we placed a joint newbuilding order. To now step up our own owning stake in this segment is in line with our strategy for this segment adopted back in 1998” – says Lennart Simonsson, CEO of Broström.
