On 3 November BRO ALMA was named as one of three Broström vessels in a series of six being built in partnership with Dünya Shipping of Istanbul, Turkey.

The six vessels are 17,000 dwt IMO II Chemical and Oil Product tankers with ice class 1A and have been ordered at three different shipyards in Turkey. BRO ALMA was named at Çelik Tekne Shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey, by Mrs Sonja Rogersson, wife to Mr Leif Rogersson, member of the Broström Board of Directors since 1994.

Out of the total of six vessels, Broström and Dünya Shipping will own three each. All vessels will be commercially operated by Broström and join the total fleet of about 60 vessels presently being operated in Europe by Broström for the transportation of refined petroleum products. Two of the vessels (GAN-OCEAN and GAN-SWORD) have already been delivered whereas the remaining four (BRO ANNA, BRO AGNES, BRO ALMA and GAN-SKY) are expected to be delivered during the first and second quarter of next year. All three of Broström’s vessels will be owned by a Dutch subsidiary, manned and technically operated from the Netherlands and flying the Dutch flag.

Since 2005 Broström has had an agreement with Dünya Shipping regarding the commercial management of eight product tankers of 47,000 - 51,000 dwt built at Korean shipyards. These vessels are being commercially operated by Broström in the expanding Asian market for transportation of refined oil products. The co-operation between Dünya Shipping and Broström has now been extended through the joint investments of intermediate size vessels for the European market.
