BROSTRÖM NAMES NEW PRODUCT TANKER IN CROATIA The first 37,300 dwt chemical and product tanker, in a series of two, is due for delivery to Broström Tankers SA in Paris at the end of the first quarter 2001. At a naming cere- mony on 16 September in Rijeka, Croatia, the vessel was named BRO ELIZABETH. The BRO ELIZABETH and her sister vessel are being built at the 3 Maj Shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia, in accordance with the latest technical, safety and environmental standards and requirements. The vessels, built for carrying petroleum products as well as IMO 2 chemicals, have a shallow draft of 9 metres at 30,000 tons of cargo. The new-buildings will contribute to the continued modernisation of the Broström tanker fleet which has an average age of 7 years. The world tanker fleet, up to 80,000 dwt, has an average age of 16 years. The new vessels will further strengthen Broström's position in the handy size markets in Western Europe and the Mediterranean and add modern capacity to the company's total fleet exceeding 50 in numbers and 1.5 million in dwt. The intention is that Broström Tankers SA at the delivery of the vessels shall have a 25 percent owning share in the project and external investors the remaining part.
