BTL develops new logistics system for Lindex. BTL has overall responsibility for the Lindex flow throughout the world to the logistics centre in Göteborg, where clothes are stored for short periods, divided among the different stores and distributed to all Lindex stores in Sweden, Germany, Norway and Finland. BTL is investing SEK 40 million in a new sorting plant as a part of the logistics concept that BTL has developed in cooperation with Lindex. "With this new logistics concept, there will be a change from manual to automatic handling of Lindex' products and therefore to more rational and effective handling of these goods. Capacity will also be significantly increased to meet with Lindex' future needs", says Per-Olof Holmberg, manager of BTL Group Logistics. "This development is unique since BTL as Lindex' logistics partner is making such a large investment for one special customer". BTL is the first transport and logistics company in Scandinavia to use this type of sorting plant, which will begin operations at the beginning of the year 2000. BTL has been Lindex' logistics partner for a number of years. In total, BTL will handle over 50 000 units per day for Lindex. In connection with the new logistics system, a new five-year agreement will also be signed to be valid from the time the sorting plant starts operations. The new agreement is a part of BTL's previous overall logistics agreement with Lindex. "Through our cooperative work to make handling more effective and the investments now being made, BTL has shown that they are serious about creating "total solutions" in the area of logistics. The sorting plant is an important component of our future logistics platform, and a significant potential for earnings has been identified in the ability to control our product flow in a better way. We are very satisfied with our cooperation with BTL and are now signing a new agreement with them", says Håkan Åkerström, director of logistics at Lindex. The efforts and investments in Gothenburg and the agreement with Lindex are a part of BTL's strategy to move forward in the logistics market. "The system we're developing for Lindex is an example of our cooperation with our clients in handling their complete chains of product and information flows", says Per-Olof Holmberg. ./.
