Residents at Bupa’s Brompton House, Mead End, Biggleswade, recently took part in kite flying, parachute games and an Ascot race day as part of the ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ competition, a challenge launched by the National Association for Providers of Activities for older people (NAPA). The charity’s ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ competition invited care homes and sheltered housing schemes to think about simple and creative ways to bring fresh air to older residents or tenants. Amanda Francis, home manager of Bupa’s Brompton House Residential and Nursing Home, says: “The residents had a lovely time flying kites outside. The children from St Mary’s Roman Catholic also came along to play. Unfortunately the weather meant that our Ascot race day had to take place indoors, but everyone enjoyed wearing their fancy hats and having a flutter all the same! The first prize for the winning home or scheme is £3000. Winners will also be invited to a gala dinner at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in September.
