Kirsty Thomas, activity co-ordinator at Bupa’s Monmouth Court Nursing Home in Ipswich has been awarded second place in the ‘Community Ambassador’ category at the Community Champion Awards. Bupa’s Community Champion Awards recognise the efforts of employees and dedication to fundraising, volunteering and engaging with their communities. Kirsty Thomas was awarded second place in the Community Ambassador category for her continued work with Belstead school. Belstead school is a secondary school for students with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties. Kirsty enabled a student at the school, Matty Edwards, to undertake work experience at Monmouth Court Nursing Home. She made Matty feel very welcome from his first day, and supported him throughout his time at the home, developing his self esteem and confidence along the way. Kirsty Thomas, activity co-ordinator at Bupa’s Monmouth Court said: “I was very excited to be invited to an awards ceremony, and thrilled to win second prize. It was such a nice surprise to be nominated for my work at our home, as well as my volunteer work with Belstead School. It was a pleasure to have Matty working with me at Monmouth Court and really satisfying to watch him progress over our time working together.” Colleagues from across Bupa were invited to join Bupa Chairman, Lord Leitch for a prestigious awards ceremony that took place recently at the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, London.
