Residents at Bupa’s Arbrook House Nursing Home, Copsem Lane, Esher are looking forward to the grand opening of their garden canopy on Monday 28 September from 3pm to 5pm. The canopy has been purchased thanks to the donation from a former resident and will be opened by the Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor James Vickers and Sylvie Silver, Director of the National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People (NAPA). The 5m x 5m canopy supplied by ‘Inside 2 Outside’ will be used by residents and relatives to sit under to allow them to enjoy the garden whilst being protected from the elements of the British weather. The new canopy is of particular interest to NAPA as the charity is actively promoting their ‘breath of fresh air’ initiative, which highlights the importance of fresh air for older people. The competition which closed in June, inspired care homes across the country to come up with new and original ideas to help older people get outside more. A prize giving event is being held in September for the winning care homes. The day will be a double celebration as Arbrook House will be holding its ‘Bupa Wants Talent competition’ during the day and will be serving afternoon tea. Keena Millar, home manager at Bupa’s Arbrook House Nursing Home, says: “We’re really excited about the arrival of our garden canopy. It will allow residents and family members to enjoy the garden no matter what the weather. We look forward to making great use of the canopy and hope to enjoy time outside.”
