Elizabeth Garrow, a resident of Bupa’s Puttenhoe Residential Home, Putnoe Street, Bedford is looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday on Friday 4 September. The home will be hosting a birthday party to celebrate the occasion, complete with thistle and tartan decorations. Betty was born in Aberdeen where she remained for the majority of her life and had a career as a cashier in the plumbing industry. Betty enjoys knitting, listening to the radio and the occasional glass of sherry. Betty was married to Jack Garrow with whom she had two daughters, Moyra and Joyce, who have since given her five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Betty will be celebrating with 25 family and friends, a number of who will be travelling from Scotland, to enjoy a buffet lunch and champagne toast. The weekend is actually a double celebration as her son-in-law Alan turns 60 on Saturday 5 September. Linda Cornfoot, Home Manager at Bupa’s Puttenhoe Residential Home says: “We’re delighted to be able to share this special occasion with Betty. Her grandchildren will be especially pleased that Betty has reached this milestone as they were looking forward to her receiving her telegram from the Queen. We hope she enjoys the party with her friends and family.”
