A team from Bupa Care Services’ banking and treasury department, based in Horsforth, Leeds took part in a community challenge on Wednesday 19 August. The team transformed St Cyprian with St James’ Church in Harehills, Leeds. Six members of the finance team took part and were involved in painting railings and gates, weeding and creating low maintenance planters to improve the appearance of the church and surrounding area. Improvements to the church will allow the local community to enjoy a well maintained facility. Caroline Plonka who led the challenge on the day says “We’d like to thank the local businesses who kindly helped us by donating products and materials. A special thanks to Lynn and Jones Ltd who donated the paint and to Yorkshire Water for the soil. Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community affairs consultant, says: “Our banking and treasury team did a great job of updating the church and all members of the team really enjoyed the challenge. Helping to make a difference to the communities in which we operate is extremely important and this is just one of many community challenges that Bupa employees have completed so far in 2009, in fact, it’s looking as though this could be a record-breaking year for volunteering for us.”
