Bupa Care Services will be holding a Fruity Friday event for employees on Friday 14 May at the company’s head offices in Horsforth, Leeds. Fruity Friday is an annual awareness and fundraising campaign, held by World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK), to increase public awareness of the links between diet, nutrition and cancer prevention, and to raise valuable funds for their cancer research and education programmes. Bupa’s Care Services head office will be raising money to support research into cancer prevention by serving fruit smooties in return for a small donation. Bananas, donated by Sainsbury’s and catering company Consultant Services Group, will also be left on the desks of employees to encourage healthy eating. Employees will be invited to take part in a “fruits of the world” session which teaches them about fruits from exotic locations as well as giving them nutritional facts. Consultant Services Group, who provide Bupa with catering and vending services, will also donate monies taken from the sale of all fruit related products on the day to the charity. Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community affairs consultant, commented: “We’re inviting everyone along to support this worthy cause by sampling the smoothies, which are being lovingly prepared by members of the fundraising team. We would like to say a huge thank you to Sainsbury’s and CSG for their generous donations and hope it helps everyone ‘Go Bananas’ for Fruity Friday.” As well as raising money to support vital research into cancer prevention, Fruity Friday aims to educate people about the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Studies have shown that we can reduce our risk of cancer by up to 40% making simple lifestyle changes such as eating lots of plant-based foods, increasing our consumption of fruit and vegetables, watching our weight and taking regular exercise. Bupa will encourage charity fundraising by matching the amount raised by employees.
