A team from Bupa Care Services’ marketing department based in Horsforth, is taking part in a community challenge. The group will be helping to renovate a derelict site in Woodhouse, Leeds, to turn it into community gardens on Thursday 1 July. The project is run in association with Oblong, Leeds, a charitable company that helps to change the community for the better by providing advice, support and facilities for local people who want to make a difference through volunteering and community projects. The event will take place between 1pm and 4.30pm and will see the 20 plus volunteers weeding, planting, laying crazy paths, and various other gardening initiatives. Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community Affairs consultant, says: “Our team is really looking forward to this challenge. It is a great initiative and will allow all of our team to work together on a project that is really making a difference to the local community. We are glad that we can also support Oblong, who work so hard to help the community through the many projects that they deliver.” Duncan Millard, Volunteering Development Worker for Oblong said: “We’re delighted that Bupa is helping with our gardening project, it will go a long way in moving this project forward and to developing the garden. The volunteers will really be able to get stuck in to this project and will see a huge difference in what they have done in just a short amount of time. It really will be an achievement and we are all excited about the results.”
