BUPA SPORTS DAY RAISES MONEY FOR CHARITY

Staff from seven of Bupa’s Northern care homes recently took part in a charity sports day to raise money for Claire House Children’s Hospice. The event raised over £450 which will be fund matched by Bupa’s Community Connections department. A cheque will be presented to the charity on Tuesday 27 July at 11am at Bupa’s St Nicholas Nursing Home, Netherton, Liverpool. Claire House is a 10 bedded hospice for children with life limiting and life threatening conditions from across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. The aim of Claire House Children’s Hospice is to enhance the quality of life by offering a high quality service with both personal and professional support, in partnership with children and their families. The event took place at Bupa’s St Nicholas Nursing Home and saw teams from seven homes compete in a variety of sporting events including children’s races, adult races, relays and a manager’s race. All teams competing were dressed in fancy dress. Winners of each category were awarded prizes by Patricia Fox, Bupa’s regional director for the North and the overall winners of the event were St Nicholas Nursing Home. Other Bupa care homes competing in the event included: Arncliffe Court Nursing and Residential Home, Liverpool Mersey Parks Residential and Nursing Home, Liverpool Newton Court Nursing and Residential Home, Cheshire Rowan Garth Nursing Home, Liverpool Stonedale Lodge Residential and Nursing Home, Liverpool Summerville Nursing Centre, Cheshire Over 100 residents, relatives and staff members attended the event, with the money raised for the charity through the sale of raffle tickets, food and drink. Joanne Revie, home manager at Bupa’s St Nicholas Nursing Home said: “This event was a fantastic success. Everyone really got into the spirit of the day and we had some incredible fancy dress outfits. Congratulations to all the teams that took part and a huge thank you to the activities staff from St Nicholas for organising such a successful event. The money raised is going to such a worthy cause as the hospice makes such a difference to the lives of critically ill children.”
