Staff from Bupa Care Services will be putting on their running shoes to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society on Sunday 18 July, as they take part in the Bupa Great North 10K Run in Sunderland. The 10km race will take in the sights and sounds of Sunderland, starting on the Wearmouth Bridge and passing landmarks including St Peter’s Church, Sunderland University and The National Glass Centre. Runners then enjoy spectacular views of The Harbour, Roker Beach and the coast as they run along Harbour View and Roker Terrace before running through Roker Park and returning on the same route back down Dame Dorothy Street finishing at Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light. Lorna Rose, Bupa’s regional director for London, will be joining staff in this race. Lorna will be completing all eight races in the great run series, and this will be Lorna’s fifth race out of the group. Lorna will be joined by Louise Wilson, head of sales and marketing for Bupa Care Services who is also completing a number of the runs in the series. Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community affairs consultant, says: “I’m very proud that our staff are taking part in the Bupa Great North 10K Run. Everyone has been so enthusiastic and the money raised is supporting such a worthy cause, close to the hearts of many staff members and residents within our homes. Good luck to all those taking part!” Dr Graham Stokes, Bupa’s director of dementia care says: “Alzheimer’s Society and Bupa are working together across a range of projects to support people with dementia and their carers to find a cure for the future, whilst improving their quality of life and care. Both organisations share a commitment to fighting dementia and a belief in the health benefits of exercise. Signing up to support Alzheimer’s Society in a Bupa Great Run means you can get fit, helping reduce your risk of dementia whilst raising money for a very worthwhile cause.” Bupa will match all the money raised by employees taking part in the run.
