This year’s 30th anniversary of the Great North Run will see over 20 runners from Bupa Care Services donning their running shoes to take part in the world’s largest half-marathon. The Care Services’ running team will include directors, care home staff and central support staff from Leeds. Also joining the team are three employees from Bupa’s Spanish business, Sanitas Residencial. All runners will be raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. Over 54,000 runners take to the streets of Newcastle on Sunday 19 September, where the iconic half-marathon will take in sights including the Tyne Bridge and Gateshead stadium. Lorna Rose, Bupa’s regional director for London, will be joining the 20 staff members in this race. Lorna has already completed six out of the eight races in the great run series, and this will be Lorna’s seventh race out of the group. Lorna will be joined by Louise Wilson, head of sales and marketing for Bupa Care Services who has also completed a number of runs in the series. Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community affairs consultant, says: “I’m very proud that our staff are taking part in the Bupa Great North Run. Everyone has been so enthusiastic and the money raised is supporting such a worthy cause, close to the hearts of many staff members and residents within our homes. Good luck to all those taking part!” Dr Graham Stokes, Bupa’s director of dementia care says: “Alzheimer’s Society and Bupa are working together across a range of projects to support people with dementia and their carers to find a cure for the future, whilst improving their quality of life and care. Both organisations share a commitment to fighting dementia and a belief in the health benefits of exercise. Signing up to support Alzheimer’s Society in a Bupa Great Run means you can get fit, helping reduce your risk of dementia whilst raising money for a very worthwhile cause.” Bupa will match all the money raised by employees taking part in the run.
