CLAREMONT GETS ARTISTIC FOR DEMENTIA CALENDAR

Residents at Bupa’s Claremont Care Home, Whitletts, Ayr, have put their artistic talents to good use by producing paintings for the Creativity in Dementia Care Calendar 2010. The calendar is the result of a collaboration between the Journal of Dementia Care, poets and arts activity workers across the UK. Each month of the calendar features a work of art by a person or group of people with dementia and is accompanied by a poem. Claremont has formed extensive links with Art in Hospitals which provides an ongoing programme of visual arts in a variety of health care settings around the Scottish area. It is through this relationship that artwork has been developed with the residents. At least five paintings from the home will be featured in the calendar Carol Barr, home manager at Bupa’s Claremont says: “The residents are really excited about seeing their work in the calendar and they had a lot of fun producing their pictures. The Journal of Dementia Care is a really positive publication and we hope that these calendars raise a valuable amount of money as well as awareness about dementia.”
