Bupa’s Cottenham Court Residential and Nursing Home, Cottenham, Cambridge, are celebrating after receiving the prestigious Elite Award in food safety, presented by South Cambridgeshire District Council. South Cambridgeshire Council launched the new award for businesses that have consistently been excellent over the last four years in food hygiene. Awards have been presented to businesses ranging from pubs and butchers, to schools and staff canteens, that have achieved the top Scores on the Doors five stars rating at two or more consecutive food hygiene inspections. The award was launched during Food Safety Week (7-13 June), an annual event held to promote the importance of good food hygiene in the home. Bupa’s Cottenham Court attended the awards ceremony and were presented with an Elite Award certificate and sticker by Councillor Sue Ellington. The awards will be displayed in the home to show residents and relatives that the home consistently reaches the very highest food safety standards. Councillor Sue Ellington said of the achievement: “I'm delighted to recognise the consistently high food safety standards of so many local businesses. It's not easy to achieve a five star rating, so I wholeheartedly congratulate the management and staff of each establishment on their hard work.” Julie Prevett, home manager at Bupa’s Cottenham Court Residential and Nursing Home says: “We are very excited to achieve this award as it recognises our commitment to excellent food hygiene. Out of the 16 businesses represented we were the only care home provider in South Cambridgeshire to achieve this award. The home had to meet strict criteria to accomplish this honour and I would like to thank the Brendan Nightingale, chef manager and his team for their continued efforts and hard work.”
