Mrs Dorothy Lloyd, a resident of Bupa’s Gable Lodge Residential Home, Loughton, Essex, is looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday on Saturday 13 March. The home will hold a party on Friday 12 March from 2pm with entertainment and refreshments for her friends and family. Dorothy was born in 1910 in St Albans and married her husband William in 1939. The couple went on to have two children, Trevor and Jacqui. Dorothy now has one grand daughter and two great grand daughters. Dorothy spent many years working for Ryder’s Seeds in St Albans, whose proprietor Sam Ryder was the brainchild of the golf trophy, The Ryder Cup, an award presented biennially in an event called the "Ryder Cup Matches" between teams from Europe and the United States. Dorothy remembers fondly, the day the cup was brought into the shop. Dorothy’s family later moved to Loughton in 1955 where they managed two shops, Loughton Radio and Glassons Furniture. Dorothy was a long standing member of the Loughton Women’s Institute and is a very active member of the home, participating in all activities and enjoying the social interaction of the home. Christine Jennings, home manager at Bupa’s Gable Lodge Residential Home, says: “All the staff and residents at Gable Lodge are delighted to share this special occasion with Dorothy. We hope she enjoys her party. It will be a really special day for her to spend with her friends and family.”
