Mrs Ethel Marks, a resident of Bupa’s Tenterden House Nursing Home, St Albans, Hertfordshire, is looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday on Tuesday 21 December. The home will hold a birthday tea party on the Tuesday from 3pm with friends, family and residents invited. Ethel was born in 1910 and was an only child. She married her husband John Arthur Marks in September 1939 and set up home together, initially with Ethel’s mother in St Albans. They eventually moved to the Chiswell Green area. The couple had two children and Ethel now has one grand child. Ethel spent most of her working life as a hairdresser and beauty therapist, and went on to set up her own business. Ethel’s hobbies included cooking, knitting, gardening, reading, sewing and listening to music. Heather Constance, home manager at Bupa’s Tenterden House Nursing Home, says: “We are delighted to share this special occasion with Ethel. She is really looking forward to reaching this landmark and we hope she enjoys her party. It will be a really special day for her to spend with her friends and family.”
