Green-fingered employees from Bupa Care Services’ central support office in Horsforth, Leeds, recently got their hands dirty to help local charity Community Links, which provides client focused mental health services. Nine members of Bupa’s accounts payable department and five from the purchasing support team helped to transform the garden of local lady, Viola Pyke, who lives on Scotthall Avenue, Leeds. Bupa’s garden supplier LBS generously donated £150 of plants and equipment to help with the challenge. Liz Lee, Dual Diagnosis Worker for Mental Health Housing Support, says: “Viola was overwhelmed by the enormity of the gardening project and was unable to tackle it herself. She now has a fantastic starting point and has already spent time in the garden. From a therapeutic position, the garden Bupa has created can help Viola in her recovery as it will enable her to take responsibility for something she enjoys. Most importantly, she has a renewed sense of pride about her home and is speaking positively about the future. “We’re delighted that the challenge has been such a success and that Viola is enjoying her new garden. It’s great to see that something Bupa has been involved with is having such a positive effect on someone’s life,” adds Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community affairs consultant.
