Florence Bleasdale is ‘Mugnificent’
Florence Bleasdale, a resident at Bupa’s St Nicholas Nursing Home, Netherton, Liverpool, is celebrating after winning ‘Be Mugnificent’, a mug design competition held as part of Bupa’s Communi-tea Week celebrations. Two designs – one from a Bupa resident and one from a member of the public, were selected and used to create Bupa’s official Communi-tea Mug. The winning designs were based around the theme of ‘what community means to you’ and were picked from over 500 entries. Florence’s design features the emotive message of a ‘helping hand’ and was inspired by being part of a community and helping people come together over a cup of tea to wipe away those feelings of isolation and lonliness. All profits from the sale of the mugs will be donated to Parkinson’s UK, a support and research charity, who for more than 40 years, have been working to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's. Florence said of her win: “I was so excited when I found out that I had won the competition, I really didn’t think I had a chance. It was a lot of fun coming up with a design for the mug and I am so grateful for the presents. I feel very spoiled.” Joanne Revie, home manager at Bupa’s St Nicholas Nursing Home, said: “Florence is delighted that her design was chosen as the winner. She is a very artistic resident and is always joining in with the craft activities that we hold at the home. She was so pleased to receive a pamper hamper of goodies, a certificate and a selection of the finished mugs and she loves showing off her handiwork to other residents and staff.”
