Green fingered design students from Sparsholt College in Hampshire have been putting their creative skills to the test by designing a garden for Bupa’s Bereweeke Court Nursing Home, Bereweeke Road, Winchester. To celebrate the choice of garden design, the home will be holding a champagne reception with canapés on Monday, 7 June at 2.30pm. Three students on the Garden Design course took part in the competition, which will see the winning design created in the home’s grounds. The designs will be judged by residents and relatives and the winner will receive a trophy presented by the Mayor, Councillor Richard Izard. Dr Harold Macdonald Mycock, Garden Design Courses Manager at Sparsholt College, says: “This is a great opportunity for our students to put their learning into practice. It is not just a case of designing the garden; factors such as cost, space and client requirements were all taken into account throughout the project process to ensure the garden met the home’s exacting standards. I am pleased that the students are getting the deserved recognition for all their hard work and commitment to this project, and I wish them all the best of luck.” The project has been organised to compliment Bupa’s Community Crops campaign, an initiative which aims to promote the health benefits associated with gardening and growing your own fruit and veg. Representatives from Hilliers Garden Centre, Ruscrete Ltd, Hambrooks Landscapes Ltd and Brambridge Garden Centre have been invited to attend and support the ongoing project. Tracey Hillier, Home Manager of Bupa’s Bereweeke Court, says: “We are really excited about the garden designs and we are delighted with the response from the college. The students have produced some exceptional designs and the residents are equally as excited about having the opportunity to choose the winning design. I want to thank the college for all their hard work and continuing involvement to progress this project and we all look forward to the end result.”
