Residents and staff at Kirknowe care home in Wishaw are celebrating this week after the home was announced as the winner of Bupa’s annual Christmas cake competition. Bupa care homes from across Scotland took part and submissions included a 3D snowman, a sack full of toys and a cosy fireside scene. The winning entry was a wintery log cabin, complete with icicles and a festive train bearing a special visitor. Kenny Valentine, Director of Bupa Care Homes in Scotland; “The standard of cakes from our care homes this year was remarkable and credit has to go to the chefs and their kitchen teams who really pulled out the stops and made life extremely difficult for the judges.” Margaret Cunningham, manager at Kirknowe said; “Everyone here is delighted that our entry won the competition and I’m very proud of our kitchen team. It seems a shame to cut it up but I think our residents are looking forward to a piece of award-winning cake!”
