IT’S A STRAWBERRY FAIR AT SOUTHLANDS!

Bupa’s Southlands Nursing and Residential Home, Ripon Road, Harrogate is looking forward to welcoming a special guest to tea on Saturday 18 July, 2pm. Joe Maiden, local gardener and BBC Radio Leeds presenter, will be joining residents and staff for a strawberry tea. Entertainment will be provided by the Harrogate Ladies Barbershop Chorus, “Stray Sound”. The home has been growing strawberries and all kinds of other fruit and vegetables as part of Bupa’s Community Crops initiative, which was launched in April this year. The campaign aims to promote the health benefits associated with gardening and ‘growing your own’. Val Storey, activity co-ordinator at Bupa’s Southlands Nursing and Residential Home, says: “We’re all hoping for a sunny day for our afternoon tea. I’m sure our home-grown strawberries will be delicious – the best Joe has ever tasted!
