Residents and staff at the Alexandra Nursing Home in Nottingham are looking forward to the opening of the ‘Lavender Retreat’, their new serenity garden, which will be marked by a tree planting ceremony on Wednesday 31 March at 3pm. The serenity garden has been designed to offer residents and staff a tranquil place to relax and unwind. It is also intended to offer peace and quiet to those who may wish to take the time to think about lost loved ones. The Lavender Retreat was built to commemorate the life of home administrator Judith Spencer, who died after a battle with cancer. Judith was described as a ‘young, bright, smiling star of the home who was loved by all’. Residents will be joined for the launch of the new serenity garden by staff, family and friends of Judith and a tree will be planted in her honour. Gerry Martin, Home manager stated: “At the Alexandra, residents and staff are one family, and the Lavender Retreat offers us all a place to relax and remember special people who are no longer with us”.
