Ms Marie Aspden, a resident of Bupa’s Bankhouse Nursing Home, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, is looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday on Tuesday 7 December. The home will be celebrating with a party with cake and champagne. Entertainment will be provided by Derek Duncan from 3.30pm. Marie was born in 1910 in Accrington. She had one brother, Arthur and her career was spent in nursing. Marie trained as a nurse at Blackpool Victoria hospital where she lived in the nurse’s quarters. She went on to train as a midwife and retired at 60 years of age. Nursing was her life and passion. Marie’s hobbies include knitting, completing crosswords, listening to classical music and reading newspapers. She also kept cats as pets when she was younger. Janet Barnes, home manager at Bupa’s Bankhouse Nursing Home, says: “We are delighted to share this special occasion with Marie. She is really looking forward to reaching the 100 landmark and we hope it will be a really special day for her.”
