Residents and staff of Bupa’s Meadbank Nursing Centre, Parkgate Road, Battersea, will be entertained by Ladder to the Moon who will be performing Romeo and Juliet on Thursday 15 April. Ladder to the Moon improves the quality of life for older people in care, particularly those living with dementia, by transforming care homes and hospitals with their unique model of Relationship Theatre. Positive outcomes of the productions include richer relationships between residents and staff, improvements in resident self-esteem and reduction in isolation. Professional actors will come into the home as ‘character visitors’ engaging residents, staff and visitors in the world of Romeo and Juliet. Residents will be invited to participate in the performance by donning costumes and taking on roles in the play. The story will be directly influenced and affected by the residents and staff of Meadbank Nursing Centre and characters within the play will respond and react to what is said to them. Michalae Thompson, home manager of Bupa’s Meadbank Nursing Centre said: “The residents are particularly looking forward to the performance of Romeo and Juliet and the chance to participate and take on the role of some of the characters. We hope this interactive theatre will bring laughter and energy into the home and everyone is really excited about the benefits this can bring to the residents and staff. Many thanks go out to Wandsworth Council for their generous funding who generously part funded the production.”
