Bupa’s Mill View Residential and Nursing Home, Bolton, Lancashire will be raising money to support research into cancer prevention by holding a Fruity Friday event on Friday 14 May. Fruity Friday is an annual awareness and fundraising campaign, held by World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK), to increase public awareness of the links between diet, nutrition and cancer prevention, and to raise valuable funds for their cancer research and education programmes. Bupa’s Mill View will be ‘going bananas’ and raising money for the valuable cause by serving banana splits and making smoothies. Residents will be able to select a piece of fruit they wish to eat as well as been given the opportunity to dip bananas in the chocolate fountain. Raffle tickets will be on sale with the opportunity to win a range of prizes. Sue Kilby, activity co-ordinator at Bupa’s Mill View Residential and Nursing Home, commented: “All the residents and staff are looking forward to Fruity Friday and the chance to ‘go bananas’ for the World Cancer Research Fund. We hope to raise a lot of money as well as signalling the importance of healthy eating. The day should be a lot of fun, and we look forward to welcoming the community into the home to support us on the day.” As well as raising money to support vital research into cancer prevention, Fruity Friday aims to educate people about the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Studies have shown that we can reduce our risk of cancer by up to 40% making simple lifestyle changes such as eating lots of plant-based foods, increasing our consumption of fruit and vegetables, watching our weight and taking regular exercise.
