School children in Edinburgh will soon be donning their running shoes to keep fit and healthy by taking part in the Bupa Junior Great Edinburgh Run on Sunday 2 May. Pupils from Liberton Primary School, in close proximity to Bupa’s Braid Hills Care Home, Edinburgh, Lothian, will be tackling the 1.5km course from 2.15pm. Bupa awarded ten free places to the school, to encourage the children to exercise, after members of staff at the school delivered Activ-eat, Bupa’s healthy eating initiative which teaches children the benefits of healthy eating through fun and memorable activities. The school gratefully snapped up the free places for their cross country running team and funds raised will be donated to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, which is the official charity partner for the run. Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s Community Affairs Consultant, says: “As a health and care company, Bupa are keen to help tackle the issue of child obesity and promote nutrition and exercise. I am so pleased that so many children want to get involved in the run, and it is a great addition to the lessons learnt on our Activ-eat programme. I want to wish all the runners the best of luck!.”
