Bupa’s Southlands Nursing and Residential Home, Ripon Road, Harrogate, are celebrating after winning gold at Harrogate in Bloom on Monday 28 September. Harrogate in Bloom was formed in 1990, and Bupa’s Southlands have entered for the last three years winning bronze, silver and silver gilt respectively. Thanks to the hard work and determination of staff at the home, the team are now celebrating winning the prestigious gold title. Special thanks go out to John and Maxine Brookes, landscape gardeners, who over the past five years have planted and maintained the home’s grounds as well as developing the vegetable garden as part of Bupa’s Community Crops initiative. Susan Sowden, home manager at Bupa’s Southlands says: “This is an magnificent achievement for the home and is well deserved. I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work. We have received numerous positive comments on how wonderful the garden looks and all this would not be possible without the involvement and dedication of John and Maxine, so again a huge thank you to them. We’ll be striving for the gold award again next year.”
