THATCHAM COURT DANCE FOR DEMENTIA Residents and staff at Bupa’s Thatcham Court Nursing Home, Thatcham, Berkshire, will be taking part in a Dancing with Dementia event on Thursday 8 July from 2pm to 4pm. The event is being held to support the Alzheimer Society’s Dementia Awareness Week. Line dancing will be the focus of the event and has been organised with the help of the local line dancing school, CD’s Corral. Studies have shown that dancing can be very therapeutic for dementia patients, allowing patients to show their personalities and interact with others, as well as helping to reduce mobility problems. Bupa’s Thatcham Court will be raising money to support research into Alzheimer’s and all monies raised will be fundmatched by Bupa’s Community Connections department. Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community affairs consultant, commented: “This campaign supports a very worthy cause and I am very proud of the staff taking part. I wish them look in raising as much money as possible to support the Alzheimer’s Society.” Dr Graham Stokes, Bupa’s director of dementia care says: “Alzheimer’s Society and Bupa are working together across a range of projects to support people with dementia and their carers to find a cure for the future, whilst improving their quality of life and care. Both organisations share a commitment to fighting dementia. Supporting the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Awareness Week campaign means we are raising money for a very worthwhile cause.” Those wanting to attend on the day are warmly invited to come along and join the fun.
