Bupa’s Southlands Nursing and Residential Home, Ripon Road, Harrogate are looking forward to a performance of a ‘Wartime Wedding’ from The History Wardrobe on Thursday 22 April at 2pm. A Wartime Wedding is a nostalgic presentation which features real and replica 1940s items to evoke the era of rationed fashion. The performance takes a look at a Land girl’s wedding preparation in the make-do-and-mend era of 1944. How will the bride rustle up cake, clothes and confetti? The audience is invited to join the bride, Annie on a perilous quest for parachute silk, knicker elastic, red lipstick and good old-fashioned glamour. This one hour show led by costume historian Gillian Stapleton and actress Lucy Adlington will bring the past to life through costumes and anecdotes of the era, culminating in a fascinating insight into a wartime wedding day. The home is inviting relatives, friends and the local community to the home to enjoy the show and take the opportunity to ask questions and get a closer look at the costumes. A wedding breakfast will also be served after the performance. Susan Sowden, home manager at Bupa’s Southlands says: “We are very excited about the performance from the History Wardrobe, it will be a great chance to reminisce about days gone by and I think it will be extremely beneficial to our residents who may be able to relate to the story. We hope that the community will come and support the home, it really will be a performance not to be missed.” For further details about the event or to express an interest in attending please contact Susan Sowden, at Bupa’s Southlands Nursing and Residential Home on 01423 526203.
