The residents and staff of Bupa’s Woodend Nursing and Residential Centre, Bradgate Road, Altrincham, Cheshire are stirring themselves into action by taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 25 September for Macmillan Cancer Support. The coffee morning is taking place from 10.30am to 12.00pm and all the money raised will be donated to help Macmillan to provide practical, medical, financial and emotional support for people affected by cancer. Bupa’s Community Connections will fund match the money raised by all Bupa businesses. The residents, friends, families and staff of Woodend will make a donation for their coffee and refreshments to raise money for the charity. Last year, more than 45,000 people held coffee mornings and, together with their family, friends and colleagues, raised over £7.5 million. Large and small coffee events across the UK helped support Macmillan with a number of its key services including information and counselling centres, specialist Macmillan medical staff, buildings for cancer treatment and care, grants for people with cancer who are in financial difficulty and the Cancerline which provides emotional support for those affected by cancer. Claire Harty, home manager of Bupa’s Woodend Nursing and Residential Centre, says: “We want to be part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning because it’s a fun event and a great way for us to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. We feel that by being involved we can make a small difference and improve the lives of people affected by cancer.” Every year more than a quarter of a million people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK and 1 in 3 people will develop cancer during their lifetime. We are all affected by the disease and we can all help. To find out more about how to become part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, call 0845 602 1246 and register.
