The residents and staff of Bupa’s Woodend Nursing and Residential Centre, Bradgate Road, Altrincham, will be setting out on a sponsored walk in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. The walk will take place on Tuesday 7 September and will be around Dunham Massey Hall Park. The volunteers will be setting off at 10.30am. One in three people over the age of 65 has a form of dementia and there are currently 750,000 people living with dementia in the UK. As Woodend offers nursing care to people with dementia, the work of the Alzheimer’s Society is particularly relevant. Money raised from the walk will be donated to the Trafford branch of the Alzheimer’s Society and will also be put towards research for people with all forms of dementia within the Cheshire area. Suzy Bostock, activity co-ordinator at Bupa’s Woodend, says: “This is the third year we have participated in the memory walk, our residents and staff enjoy it every year and so much that they asked to take part again! The walk, which is approximately three miles, enables our residents and staff to have a fun afternoon whilst raising funds for this worthy cause.” People wishing to make a donation to the charity or sponsor the home’s walkers can call Woodend on 0161 929 5127.
