Bure acquires Denmark's largest private laboratory Nova Medical, which is included in Bure Hälsa och Sjukvård AB, has acquired Medi-Lab AS from the pharmaceutical company, Hoffman La Roche, Switzerland. Medi-Lab is the leading private laboratory in Denmark with a turnover of approximately SEK 75M and some 100 staff. "Through the acquisition of Medi-Lab we are creating a platform for expansion in Denmark and thus continued internationalisation of our operations," says Orwar Gustafsson, Managing Director of Nova Medical AB. "We are also strengthening our international base for clinical tests by gaining access to a strategically-located laboratory in Copenhagen." European expansion within health care Per Båtelsson, Managing Director of Bure Health Care emphasises that the acquisition means yet another step in the deliberate strategy to grow outside Sweden. Bure Health Care now has a turnover of nearly SEK 300M in Denmark. Earlier this year, Simonsen & Weel was acquired which is involved with distribution of health care products. Nova Medical is the leading laboratory company in Scandinavia with a turnover of SEK 400M and approximately 500 staff. Operations are carried out in nine hospitals in Sweden as well as laboratories in Poland and, following the acquisition, now also in Denmark. Strong brandname Medi-Lab, which was founded and has been under private management since 1932, is a highly-regarded brandname in Danish health care and has more than 600 different types of analyses on its programme. The laboratory carries out a very broad spectrum of special analyses on behalf of the hospitals throughout Denmark as well as extensive operations in the sector for clinical tests on behalf of pharmaceutical companies all over the world. "Medi-Lab's specialist expertise will thus become an important resource for the Nova Group," emphasises Orwar Gustafsson.
