CARLSTEDT RESEARCH & TECHNOLOGY FORMS NEW COMPANY FOR DEVELOPING SOFTWARE FOR "THE INTELLIGENT HOME" IN COOPERATION WITH ERICSSON Carlstedt Research & Technology AB (CR&T) has formed Gatespace AB, a new company targeted towards developing software for the "intelligent home" and other Internet based service systems in cooperation with Ericsson Radio Systems AB. The new company will develop products based on the new proposed standard for the area of networked based services, "Open Service Gateway Initiative", which is being proposed by Ericsson and other industry leaders. The company will develop this standard further, and develop software platforms, development tools, and management systems. Target customers include providers of networked services, network operators, and third party developers. The new company will be based in Göteborg, Sweden, with operations also in Stockholm and internationally. Jöran Hoff, Vice President Ericsson Radio Systems AB: We look forward to rapid growth within this area, for both mobile and landline operations. Our cooperation with CR&T and Gatespace AB makes it possible for us to rapidly offer systems based on the new OSGI standard. CR&T's experience from academic research in combination with their track record for forming successful start- up companies complements Ericsson's market and product expertise. By forming an independent company we think both product and market development can be sped up significantly. Staffan Truvé, managing director CR&T: We see this as a natural extension of a long term collaboration, where CR&T has developed the software architecture for Ericsson's e-box product. The new company will combine the best of both companies' cultures, in order to launch innovative products on the world market. By allowing this to be done in an independent company, Ericsson demonstrates that they understand the forces behind the rapid development of Internet technology. Malte Lilliestråle, Ericsson Radio Systems AB, business development e-box: I am very pleased to see this happen. The new company will offer products that enable rapid development and deployment of new services for e-box and other OSGI compliant systems. This market is developing at great speed, and it is important to be able to offer products based on a global standard at the right price, at the right time, and with the right characteristics. The new company will become an important player within this market and will help to establish OSGI as the leading standard for network based services for the home and mobile markets.
