Burke Rehabilitation Hospital Announces Barry Jordan, M.D., M.P.H., as Assistant Medical Director
WHITE PLAINS, NY – Jan. 2, 2013 – The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital has announced the appointment of Barry Jordan, M.D., M.P.H., as assistant medical director of the hospital, a newly created position. In his expanded role, reporting to Mary Beth Walsh, M.D., Burke’s executive medical director, Dr. Jordan will assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures and best practices for improving patient care; and be involved in the training and continuing education of the hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Jordan will also work with the executive medical director to ensure the facility is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws in an ever-changing healthcare landscape.
Dr. Jordan is a renowned neurologist who has been with Burke since 1999, first as an attending neurologist and then being named director of Burke’s inpatient Brain Injury program and medical director of the Memory Evaluation and Treatment program. Along with his new responsibilities as assistant medical director, Dr. Jordan will continue as director of the Brain Injury program.

Dr. Jordan has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of brain injuries including concussion and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive degenerative disease affecting individuals with a history of multiple concussions or other head trauma, often seen in professional athletes such as boxers.
Outside of his work at Burke, Dr. Jordan is heavily involved in the welfare of athletes. He serves as the chief medical officer of the New York State Athletic Commission, team physician for U.S.A. Boxing, and a member of both the National Football League (NFL) Players Association Mackey-White Traumatic Brain Injury Committee and the NFL Neuro-Cognitive Disability Committee. He is also an associate professor of Clinical Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Jordan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s in neurophysiology and obtained his medical doctorate from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Jordan completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of California - Los Angeles Medical Center and performed his neurology residency training at the New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center. Dr. Jordan and his wife Ruby reside in White Plains.
