The C-RAD Sentinel system prevented an emergency situation during treatment of a patient

C-RAD With its four fully owned subsidiaries are all active in the field of radiation therapy. C-RAD INC. has received an order for its Sentinel® optical motion management system from Advanced Radiation Oncology Services (Advanced ROS) in Nyack, New York.

Advanced ROS is a state-of-the-art, free standing cancer center that offers comprehensive radiation therapy services to patients throughout the Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey.

Advanced ROS will use the Sentinel® as its intra-fraction motion management for conventional 3D-CRT treatments, as well as more advanced treatments, such as IMRT. C-RAD began the implementation in late August and the site went clinical in early September.

“The very first day we used the system clinically it enhanced patient safety by detecting abnormal head motion in a patient suffering from nausea and alerted us to intervene quickly, thereby avoiding a medical emergency in the form of vomiting inside a thermoplastic mask immobilization device,” noted Andrew J. Tamas, Chief Radiation Therapist.

“The Sentinel provides our center with a complete and comprehensive intra-fraction motion solution. We needed a better way to supervise out patients in real time during their treatment fractions. We found the Sentinel to be an attractive solution to outpatient motion management needs,” says Dr. James Gerstley, Radiation Oncologist and Director at Advanced ROS.

Erik Hedlund, CEO of C-RAD AB says: “The C-RAD systems have been designed to improve precision, patient safety and efficiency.
The C-RAD Sentinel systems installed at the clinic in New York succeeded to alarm and make the staff aware about a very critical patient situation. This incident shows our dedication to improve patient safety during radiation therapy of patients with cancer.”

“Advanced ROS offers a top-notch treatment team and we are very excited to implement our technology within a center with skilled staff and a true forwarding looking approach to quality patient care,” concludes Daniel O'Connell, President of C-RAD Inc.
