C Technologies subsidiary Anoto starts collaboration with Daigo, Japan's leading manufacturer of diaries Anoto is entering into an agreement with the Daigo Corporation, Japan's leading manufacturer of diaries. Hand written notes made in a regular diary with Anoto functionality is forwarded as a graphic e-mail, facsimile or SMS. This is done by the use of a digital pen, via a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, directly to the digital organizer in the computer or PDA. The first joint products are expected to reach the market during spring 2002. The collaboration with Daigo implies that Anoto has now procured excellent prerequisites for a broad introduction of Anoto's services on the Japanese market. Anoto has already reached agreements with two companies of strategic importance in Japan - Pilot, leading producer of pens and stationery, and Kokuyo, predominant manufacturer of paper products and office equipment. "Since Daigo was founded the company has manufactured diaries for analogue communication. With the Anoto concept we are now entering the digital world, which means that we can develop completely new products for both existing and potential users. By this type of digital paper based services we will also be of interest on the PDA market", says Kunihiro Shikata, CEO of the Daigo Corporation. "We have chosen Daigo as our partner because of their know-how and recognised distribution channels on the significant diary market. As we have previously established, the Japanese communication culture is strongly image based and therefore a natural market for our concept, which enables hand written notes and images to be forwarded directly from an ordinary paper with Anoto functionality to the organizer. Taking this into consideration, each individual is a potential customer", says Christer Fåhraeus, President of Anoto. As a part of the agreement, Daigo Corporation will join Anoto's Partner Program, a forum where partners can exchange experience. The aim is to mutually strengthen Anoto's standard for digital paper. Anoto's concept is facilitated by three components: ordinary paper made digital by the almost invisible Anoto pattern, digital pens with Bluetooth communication and services delivered to the market by a cellular network operator.
