California Inns with the Best Hot Tubs
SACRAMENTO, CA [March 17, 2016]—Slipping into the warm waters of a hot tub is a great way to relax while on vacation. The California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) has rounded up some of the best hot tubs at inns around the state for a soothing soak.
The new redwood hot tub at Inn San Francisco is a hidden refuge in the heart of the city. Nestled in a garden gazebo with redwood decking, the hot tub is enclosed on three sides for privacy and has a plexiglass roof for viewing the stars or listening to the rain. The new tub was installed in January 2015 and is surrounded by flowering plants and trees. It is open 24 hours a day for guests’ use. The inn provides plush terry cloth robes and extra towels. Located in the Mission District, the inn is an elegant Victorian with a rooftop deck and views of the city.
Under the romantic drapes of a Moroccan-inspired tent, the large Jacuzzi spa at El Morocco Inn & Spa in Desert Hot Springs is fed by hot spring mineral water and features 15 swirling jets. The soothing, silky smooth waters are thought to be therapeutic, sharing the same healing, mineral water vein as the Children’s Hospital across the street. The hot tub at the inn is open to guests 24 hours a day. The inn also features a heated mineral spring-fed swimming pool and two poolside fireplaces for relaxing after a dip in the warm waters.
After a day of on the slopes, guests can return to Donner Lake Inn near Truckee to soak under the stars amid a snow-covered forest. The hot tub sits on the banks of Gregory Creek beneath the towering pines. Guests can relax and relieve their tired muscles in the 102-degree water while listening to the creek flowing over the rocks and watching for snowflakes and shooting stars. The contemporary-style B&B with warm wood accents is located within a short drive of several ski resorts and snow parks.
The hot tub at Casa Bella Inn is open to the dazzling night skies of Sonoma’s Valley of the Moon. On a clear night, guests can see forever from the warm swirling waters of the inn’s hot tub. The tub is nestled on a spacious veranda with romantic cabanas and a fire circle. Hot tub users can sip a glass of bubbly or wine while gazing at the stars and enjoying the sounds of nature at night. On warm summer nights, guests can request a moonlit massage in one of the inn’s private cabanas near the hot tub. The inviting inn sits on a two-acre estate with a heart-shaped labyrinth and bocce court.
The historic Tallman Hotel in rural Upper Lake offers several Garden Rooms with teak Ofuro soaking tubs. The deep, rectangular Japanese tubs are enclosed outdoors on private back decks off of the guest room with outdoor showers. The tubs are kept between 98 and 100 degrees. The tubs’ teak wood combined with the warm water releases a soothing aroma. The handsome 1890s country hotel was completely restored and expanded to a 17-room luxury inn and re-opened in 2006.
In Calistoga, the Chanric Inn’s outdoor whirlpool offers beautiful views of the Napa Palisades. The secluded pool and whirlpool sit at the top of a terraced hillside ringed by trees, a garden of roses and stonework created by a local artisan. Elegant pillar candles flicker around the edges of the terrace, which is open until 10:00 p.m. each evening for soaking under the stars. Inside, the renovated hotel features modern designer furnishings, luxurious linens, muted color palettes and inviting private baths with contemporary stone vessel sinks and Thierry Mugler spa products.
