SACRAMENTO, CA [December 4, 2015]--An outdoor fire at night holds a special allure, but California inns turn up the heat with romantic settings, incredible views, complimentary s'mores and more. The California Association of Boutique & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) has compiled a list of some of the best outdoor fire pits around the state to cozy up to.

The perfect night cap to the exquisite five-course wine-pairing dinner at Justin Winery is sipping on a glass of port by one of the three rectangular concrete-and-glass gas fire pits. The fire pits are located just outside the restaurant at the patio’s edge, overlooking the rolling vineyards.  The night skies above this quiet, remote Paso Robles vineyard turn out an expansive blaze of stars once the sun sets.  Afterwards, retire to one of the luxurious, modern suites at the winery’s JUST Inn, which is tucked behind the restaurant.  Guests are treated to a complimentary bottle of wine, a tour of the winery and caves, and breakfast each morning.

The fire pit at Nick’s Cove & Cottages sits at the water’s edge of Tomales Bay with a sweeping view of the bay and the pier.  On evenings when the winds are calm, guests can pull up an Adirondack chair or snuggle up on the wooden beachfront swing to enjoy the warm glow of the flames.  Guests can roast the inn’s signature house-made s’mores or just kick back and enjoy the sunset over the bay.  The inn’s restored historic seaside cottages featuring cozy beds, wood burning stoves, and deep claw foot tubs. The adjacent roadhouse restaurant and oyster bar serves up some of the freshest seafood on the Northern California coast.

Overlooking a pond in the scenic Sierra Foothills near Placerville, the fire pit at Eden Vale Inn is an idyllic spot for roasting s’mores and watching the sunset. The fire pit was built by an artisan metal worker.  The glow of LED lights hidden beneath of the outer steel rim and the scent of local pine logs add to the ambiance.  The inn is a sublime retreat with beautifully-appointed rooms, luxurious baths, fireplaces, outdoor soaking tubs and an on-site spa.  The inn is surrounded of acres of gardens with hammocks strung beneath wooden arbors draped with grapes vines.

The flickering glow from El Morocco Inn & Spa’s outdoor fireplaces add to the enchantment of this Moroccan-inspired retreat in Desert Hot Springs.  Both fireplaces are poolside to the inn’s healing spring-fed mineral waters, which are open 24 hours a day.  One is a white marble hearth near the bar that is flanked by rugs, rattan sofas and Moroccan poufs.  The open flame makes it ideal for roasting s’mores late into the night.  The second fireplace near the deep end of the pool features a Moorish design with a mosaic marble hearth. It’s great for couples to cozy up to after a late night swim.

In Paso Robles wine country, the brick fire pit at the Creekside Bed & Breakfast sits in a clearing beside a creek surrounded by old oaks with Spanish moss swaying from the branches.  Evening fires and s’mores around the fire pit are a favorite among the guests.  At the guests’ request, the innkeepers’ young daughter will deliver a basket filled with complimentary marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers and skewers.  The intimate, two-room inn is built from a beautifully restored barn and feature feather beds, luxurious linens, fireplaces, kitchenettes, fresh flowers, and a gourmet breakfast delivered each morning.

Roasting s’mores around a fire is elevated to a whole new level at the Farmhouse Inn in Sonoma’s Russian River Wine Country. The inn supplies hand-crafted marshmallows and graham crackers made by the inn’s resident pastry chef along with Valrhona chocolate for a decadent spin on the classic gooey treat.  The inn’s two inviting stone fire pits are surrounded by espaliered apple trees, rose bushes, and passion vine.  They are a great place to meet up with other guests and compare notes on the day's adventure in the wine country.  The luxurious inn features a Michelin-starred restaurant and on-site spa.

One of the garden patios at the Chanric Inn in Calistoga features a towering slab of stone with a waterfall-style fountain cascading down the face of the wall.  In the evenings, the base of the fountain turns into a fireplace, offering an enchanting spot to relax with a glass of wine.  Cozy up on one of the deep-cushioned outdoor sofas flanking either side of the fountain to enjoy the flickering flames and trickling water.  Inside, the renovated hotel features modern designer furnishings, luxurious linens, muted color palettes and inviting private baths with contemporary stone vessel sinks and Thierry Mugler spa products.

After a day wine tasting, shopping or exploring Old Mission San Juan Baptista, guests at the Joshua Inn in Hollister enjoy unwinding beside the inn’s large outdoor fireplace.  The cozy brick hearth provides an ideal spot to roast s’mores or sip wine beneath the stars.  The innkeepers happily supply the accoutrements for after dinner drinks and marshmallow treats.  Fireside seating can accommodate up to eight people comfortably.  The five-room Victorian inn is close to local wineries, restaurants, spas, golf courses and numerous parks; it also provides a base for exploring Santa Cruz, Monterey and Carmel.
