Camanio Care and Bay Oaks Historic Retirement Residence bring first-of-its-kind care technology to South Florida
Camanio Care has partnered with Bay Oaks Historic Retirement Residence to bring BikeAround, the Innovative tool that integrates Google Maps and Swedish technology, to exercise senior minds and bodies in Miami, Florida. Bay Oaks will allow local seniors, medical professionals and scientists to use and evaluate the Camanio Care product BikeAround™ Screen on their historic Miami campus.
Imagine being able to ride a bike through the neighborhood you grew up in from a comfortable seat, miles, perhaps even countries, away. BikeAround combines elements of bicycling and interactive 360° Google Street View mapping technology to make it possible to experience the freedom of a bicycle ride without the constraints of physical Impairments or even international borders.
Bay Oaks, Miami's award-winning assisted living facility and a non-profit organization since 1947, is home to 32 mostly independent retirees. While the BikeAround has been extensively tested as a tool for stimulating the minds and bodies of Alzheimer's and dementia patients, Bay Oaks is eager to help demonstrate the tool's use among healthy seniors as well. The aim is to use BikeAround as a social activity that will allow residents and other users to explore former residences and neighborhoods, and share stories with neighbors, friends, and caregivers. Bay Oaks presents an opportunity to expand the conversation around BikeAround further than its current main target. Along with this, Bay Oaks will be a center where other people that may be interested in the BikeAround are invited for a viewing or demonstration or to test the product out.

Bay Oaks is the first and, so far, the only establishment in Florida to have the BikeAround Screen. Florida is a very important place for Camanio Care to flourish, as there are lots of older adults and international born residents who would benefit from this technology. Older individuals, particularly naturalized citizens who may long for a home they can never return to for physical or political reasons, can use this bike to go back to their childhood neighborhoods and have a look around, which creates joyful reminiscence.
