This year’s dinner celebrates top American fashion designer Michael Kors, who will receive the 2010 Oliver R. Grace Award for Distinguished Service in Advancing Cancer Research for his commitment to promoting awareness and raising funds for cancer research. Also receiving the 2010 Grace Award is Andrew Witty, chief executive of GlaxoSmithKline, one of the world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. The dinner will also feature presentations of the William B. Coley Award for Distinguished Research in Tumor Immunology to three scientists—Haruo Ohtani, Wolf Hervé Fridman, and Jérôme Galon—whose seminal contributions to tumor immunology have significantly advanced the development of immune system-based treatments for cancer, especially T-cell based therapeutic cancer vaccines.

WHERE:    The Mandarin Oriental, 80 Columbus Circle (at 60th Street), New York City

WHEN:      Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 6:00pm cocktails, 7:00pm dinner

WHY:         To benefit the Cancer Research Institute (CRI), a nonprofit organization that is advancing the next wave in cancer treatment—a new class of therapies, such as cancer vaccines, that harnesses the immune system’s natural ability to target and eliminate cancer and prevent its recurrence.  CRI provides vital funding support to scientists and clinicians conducting cutting-edge cancer research at top medical centers and universities around the world.
